Sex sells

During this time of the year I am reminded of several things, not the least of which the rampant consumerism of our culture. Most have probably seen the recent story of a Wal-Mart worker in Long Island who was trampled to death by a horde of shoppers anxious to get their mitts on one of the limited number of flat screen televisions.

Here in Seattle we like our coffee. In addition to the chains like Starbucks and Tully's, we have small coffee stands in what seems like every other parking lot. The latest trend around Lynnwood seems to be the "soft-core porn" coffee-stand business model, with names like "Java Jugs" advertising baristas in lingerie and others stands announcing, "sexy barista babes."

I am not making this up.

J Beans. I've heard of this naughty coffee trend. I expect nothing less of a conglomeration of hedonism such as Seattle, or Lynwood for that matter. It's brilliant, if diabolical, marketing. You're one on one with the barista, you flirt a little, watch her work, your wife has no clue, it's a little mid day pick me up... plus the coffee. It's actually prostitution on a socially acceptable level.

Then again, Spokane placed higher than Seattle and Portland for violent crime per capita...nice

I have a new blog. It might be helpful to the guys patronizing the booby baristas.

jobandjames.blogspot.com

Unlike the other one, this is the real mccoy. hope you guys are well paul

That doesn't surprise me about Spokane . . . all those meth trailers in the Valley.

On a serious note, I'll link up the new blog and replace the old one. I'm proud of you Paul.

thanks Beans,

ironically, the Valley is a seperate city and ranks pretty safe.

A word of caution: Trying to talk like a local and saying "the Valley" might get you in trouble with my neighbours. Remember, I do live five blocks from the ghetto.

Think of a Seattlite (?) alone, in Spokane, as being similar to a very white, white person, alone, in Compton... scary...

So many things to miss about the GNW! Sexy in a coffee stand, Taco Del Mar , teriyaki, greenery...
